Grants to Benefit Youth and Communities Throughout the Capital Region
From a neighborhood beautification and safety project in West Sacramento to the creation of a youth center in Nevada City, youth and the communities they live in will benefit from projects funded by 11 Program Improvement grants, recently awarded by Sierra Health Foundation. Youth Opportunity: Grants Advisory Board for Youth
The Grants Advisory Board for Youth (GABY) exists to empower youth by equipping them with the skills, attitudes, knowledge and opportunities necessary to prepare them for a future as community leaders.
GABY consists of approximately 20 youth, ages 12 to 19, who are responsible for providing funding and assistance to youth-led projects that use local resources to address community challenges.

West Sacramento Youth Resource Coalition Seeks Administrative Assistant
The West Sacramento Youth Resource Coalition, a collaboration of community organizations, businesses, schools, and youth, is currently seeking a full-time Administrative Assistant.
Woodland Coalition for Youth Seeks Grant Writer
The Woodland Coalition for Youth (WC4Y), one of seven collaboratives to receive support from the Sierra Health Foundation’s REACH program, will make community-wide changes for youth to ensure they are safe and healthy, have positive relationships with caring adults, have meaningful opportunities to participate in the community and develop the skills they need to be successful.

Six Local Youth Programs to Benefit from Grants

REACH Conference Addresses Changing the Odds for Youth
Almost 300 youth and adults from throughout the Sacramento region participated in the first REACH Regional Youth Development Conference, held July 10 at McClellan Park.
With a theme of "Changing the Odds for Youth: Strategies for Mobilizing Community Change," participants learned the importance of youth development principles and what communities, organizations and individuals can do to help young people live healthy, successful lives.
REACH Community Youth Profile Reports
The seven REACH Community Action coalitions completed their community assessments in early 2007 and have written youth profile reports. The coalitions represent El Dorado Hills, Galt, Meadowview, Rancho Cordova, South Sacramento, West Sacramento and Woodland. Download the reports below.
REACH Regional Youth Conference Set for July 10
Youth and adult leaders in youth development and community change will come together on July 10 to talk about what it takes to change the odds for youth in their communities. The conference will be held at the Lions Gate Hotel at McClellan Park in North Highlands.
Who should attend: youth and adult leaders working to change their communities to improve the odds for youth. Students, educators, youth service providers, faith leaders, business leaders, policy-makers, coalition members, government workers and other community leaders.
